Things To Do

Air Tours:
The little airport with the BIG heart" is the battle cry of our airport. Airport Manager Howie Franklin and staff believe in service, service, service. Air tours from the airport are a favorite vacation activity.

Biking:
Bring your bike and explore the many streets and parks on Oak Island. It is also fun biking in historic Southport.

Boating:
Boat ramps are located at end of 57th Place West, the end of 55th Street East and the wildlife ramp on Fish Factory Road on the Mainland. There is also a Canoe/Kayak Ramp at 39th Place West and the end of 31st Street Southeast on the Davis Canal. There are also several marinas in the area.

Deep Sea Fishing:
Deep Sea Fishing can be a few miles out or to the Gulf Stream for the really big ones. Full day and half day trips are common.

Enjoy The Beach:
Swimming, Sun Bathing, Wind Surfing or just relax and enjoy this peaceful place.

Golf (Seven Courses Nearby):
There are over 30 golf courses in Brunswick County with more being built each year. The Southport-Oak Island area is fortunate to have 7 of the best courses in the County. Click here for a list of Golf Courses.

Historic Southport Trail:
A Self-Guided Walking Tour, the Southport Historical Society makes history come alive as you enjoy a relaxed one mile walk through charming Historic Southport.

Kayaking And Canoeing:
There are many places for Kayaking or canoeing including the Davis Creek Canoe Trail. Maps are available at the Recreation Center. Adventure Company in Southport offers daily kayak tours, kayak lessons, kayak rentals and kayak sales.

Oak Island Seniors Craft Store
The Oak Island Seniors Craft Store is located at 5918 E. Oak Island Drive.

Pier Fishing:
Choose a Pier on Oak Island or the one in Southport for a great day of family fun!

Scuba Diving Off Shore Reefs And Wrecks:
Scuba Diving is excellent in the Frying Pan Shoals area just off Southport and out past the Frying Pan Tower at the end of the shoals.

Shell Hunting:
With more than 14 miles of beach you can hunt shells for days and not be in the same place twice. A wide range of interesting shells can be found on our South facing beach.

Sightseeing Charters:
The Southport and Oak Island areas offers a variety of sightseeing opportunities.

Skateboarding:
The Oak Island Skate Park is located at 49th Street SE & Beach Drive.

Skydiving:
Classes and jumps are offered at the Brunswick County Airport throughout the week, weather permitting. Jumps are available for experienced jumpers with C & D licenses.

Surf Fishing:
Surf Fishing is available along the more than 10 miles of beach but some people like to fish at the point which is located at the West end of Oak Island near the Lockwood Folly inlet.

Tennis:
There are two public courts located on Oak Island.

The Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry:
The Southport Ferry departs from the dock located off Moore Street in Southport. Call 800-BY-FERRY for the latest ferry information.

Visit "The Point":
The Oak Island Point is located at the West end of Beach Drive and includes an interpretive trail, parking area, covered wheelchair platform on the beach and portable restrooms. This is a great place for walking, fishing or shell hunting.
